BIOGRAPHY

Lyric mezzo-soprano Jade Moffat grew up in Toowoomba, Australia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2012, whilst also being a member of Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program. Jade recently relocated to the UK to complete an Artists Masters at the Guildhall School of Music on their prestigious Opera Course, studying with Yvonne Kenny. 

Jade is the recipient of many awards and scholarships including the IFAC Australian Singing Competition’s Marianne Mathy Scholarship, Joan Sutherland Memorial Vocal Scholarship, Dame Joan Sutherland Award, and was the Dame Nellie Melba Scholarship holder with the Melba Trust for 2014 and 2015. Jade is the proud recipient of the Nora Goodridge Developing Artist Award with the Australian Music Foundation for 2016, and is an Independent Opera Scholar for 2016/2017.

Jade recently made her Opera Queensland debut performing the role of Diane in Philip Glass’s The Perfect American, and also covered the role of Tisbe in Cenerentola. Recently for Opera Australia she covered the role of Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, whilst also being a member of their chorus.  In recent times Jade has performed the role of Judith Bluebeard’s Castle, Fenena Nabucco, Carmen Carmen, Mrs Nolan The Medium, Fatima and Puck Oberon, David Saul, Principessa Suor Angelica, as well as covering the role of Bianca Rape of Lucretia, Columbina Le donne curiose.

On the concert platform Jade has been the mezzo-soprano soloist for many key works including; Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Requiem, Durufle’s Requiem, Handel’s Saul, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Dixit Dominus, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Durufle’s Requiem, and Bottesini’s Messa da Requiem.

She recently performed the role of Marta in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, and The Mother in Stravinsky’s Mavra for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and looks forward to performing the role of Zenobia in Handel’s Radamisto, and in the world premiere of Julian Philip’s The Tale of Januarie in 2017.  Later this year Jade looks forward to performing the role of Marcellina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro for Clonter Opera, and a recital at Wigmore Hall for Independent Opera.
